Alexi walked into the embracing warmth of Polis Station, he pulled the gas mask off of his face, glad to be able to breath air that hadn't been pushed through a gas mask.
"Ah, good to see you Alexi. Have any luck up there?" One of the guards asked as they closed the door behind him. Alexi sighed and shook his head.
"No, only a few books. I was planning to go further but the demons are hunting today. No Howlers at least." He said with a slight chuckle, many of the guards knew the story of his first run in. He headed past the guards into the city proper. His destination was the quickly growing library of Polis, which would buy most books for a reasonable amount.

The Library had only given him 15 rounds for the three books, he headed into Polis's Market. It was a busy place, poorly lit and smelling of unwashed bodies and animals, vendors tried to sell everything from guns to pigs, the market was only second to those of Hanza in size.
Alexi walked up to the bullet exchange and replenished his used ammo. "Well, there goes my profit." He muttered as he put the regular bullets into his pocket. It was then that a conversation caught his attention.
"Hey, have you heard about the bounty Miller has up?" A merchant said to a man at his table.
"No? Who's it on?" The man replied, somewhat curious. Alexi listened carefully, a good bounty could set him and his family up for a while.
"Not who, but what. He's offering 100 Military Grade Rounds for the head of Nosalis pack leaders, they're Dark Nosalises, but no tougher than the average one." The merchant told him, the man started laughing.
"Ha! You'd have to be crazy to go hunting for the Tunnel Trash, not me, I don't care how good the pay is!" The man said as he walked away laughing.
Alexi sighed, he had no desire to go into the tunnels, but the money was good, and his savings were dwindling.

Adam looked up from the well-worn Bible he was reading, sitting on a simple wooden crate. His combat boots were kicked up on the small table where he hawked his wares, simple wooden carvings that appeared to be in the image of religious figures. It was hard to tell, due to the admittedly shoddy work.
He listened to the merchants chatter, a finger marking the last sentence he had read in his book. Shaking his head as the incredulous man walked away, he shifted his feet back to the ground and slipped a ribbon into the Bible before closing it. "One would think that honorable men would take it unto themselves to rid the Metro of such a threat to the flock."
He grinned, looking up to Alexi, who stood nearby. "It is a good thing men like you and me are willing to be shepherds, yes? Besides, these men do not know what horrors lurk on the surface. A nosalis is but a simple mongrel to the wolves above, right?" He laughed, leaning in. "I saw you returned with books... What were their titles? Did you check?"

"It is a good thing that men like you and me are willing to be shepherds, yes?"
Alexi looked at the grinning man sitting on the floor. He held a book in his hands and continued to talk.
"Umm, two were books on mechanics and engineering, I think the other was a copy of Moby Dick." He told the merchant.
Alexi was still considering, but the money was the deciding factor. "Look, even if we go into the tunnels. It'll be tough to stop a pack by ourselves. Any ideas.?" He asked, before realizing his mistake. "Oh, my name is Alexi, and you?"

Adam nodded slowly. "Those first two... Worth a handful of bullets, to be sure. But Moby Dick... Oh, what I would have paid for that!" He sighed, slumping back into his chair before realizing he needed to introduce himself.
"Oh! I am Adam Romanov. A pleasure to meet you, my friend." He plucked up a carving, holding it out with a grin. "Here, free of charge."
Whether or not his companion took the offered gift, Adam rose from his seat, and began to pack up his scattered belongings. "Nosalises... 'Snouts,' they call them. Wolves amongst the flock, I say. Foul abominations. And now Miller calls for the alpha's head? How can I pass up the opportunity to slay the Beast of the Earth, false deity of man?" He laughed. "As for how to kill the lot of them... That I cannot answer, until I know more. Where is this pack, is the first question. Perhaps it is what remains of the beasts below the church outpost? I'd expect that they would need to be cleared, in order to secure a safe passage between there and others..."
He rambled on, beginning to strap on his gear. He didn't seem to notice if his new friend was paying attention or not.
"If that is the case, then it may be trickier than simply demolishing a section of tunnel; those catacombs are of holy ground, even if they are defiled by such beasts. And to destroy them would result in the destruction of the church itself, not to mention what little soul remains with the Spartans..." Adam sighed, pausing. He held his knapsack, in the process of withdrawing his gas mask. "If only they would permit me to give sermons, as I requested."
