Hello everyone. Just making this thread in the hopes of starting a good airsoft general. If you play airsoft or just enjoy looking at AEGs and army surplus, feel free to post here.
I've been fascinated by airsoft for years even though I only played it once with a high school friend and his team. Since I didn't have a proper gun replica (save for a shitty spring-powered Sig Sauer P228), I was lent a FAMAS. My friend had a ridiculously cool-looking Chinese AK-47 (the brand was Tokyo Marui) made of wood and metal. Other gun replicas used that day were a Steyr AUG (very nice-looking), some kind of M4 or M16 that broke down, and several gas-powered handguns. We played several games in public woodland near my friend's house and spent a pretty glorious day. Everyone was dressed in cheap French army F2 camo except me, as I had to make do with a black t-shirt, a boonie hat and a pair of non-military camo trousers. Some of the most glorious moments included staring in envy at Steyr guy's loadout (he was decked with full camo, tactical vest and headset), crawling through bushes and getting shot in the chest by Steyr guy (I was so startled by that shot that I yelped and fell over!).
I often feel tempted to get started, but I'm always put off by the price of the replicas and the fear of looking like an idiot So I've mostly just browsed the webs looking for nice replicas and dreaming about shooting BBs at other people. Here are my favourites so far:
CYMA's AK-74M
Umarex's Beretta ARX 160 - I'm not a fan of plasticky-tacticool guns, but the ARX just looks nice and comfy to use.
CYMA's Romanian AK-47
G&G's FN FNC
King Arms' FN FAL
Jing Gong's HK G3A3 - tempting because it looks a lot like the FAL, is pretty cheap and is a solid replica.
Real Sword's Type 97 - I'm not a fan of bullpups (they were usually disappointing in video games), but this one looks noice.
As for loadout, I'd probably be tempted to make a STALKER or Metro 2033 one, but the price is once again dissuasive. Not to mention gas masks are very uncomfortable.
So, any of you guys into airsoft?
PS: as an added bonus for Karc, here's a Groza-looking replica I found.
